Join us on Sunday, November 16th from 1-4pm as we spend an informative and inspiring afternoon with Anna Hunter from Long Way Homestead. Anna is someone I admire so much and I'm so excited to welcome her here to Ridgeway.

Anna Hunter is a first - generation sheep farmer and wool mill owner in Eastern Manitoba, Treaty One Territory. She is passionate about building community and connecting rural fibre farmers with urban consumers, fibre artists, and crafters. You can learn more about Anna and her farm/mill at longwayhomestead.com

Breed Specific Wool for Your Fibre Arts Practice

Each breed of sheep produces a distinct type of wool for knitting and crochet. Understanding the qualities and characteristics of these breeds will inform and accentuate your knitting. Texture, colourwork, cables and drape are all affected by the unique wool breeds.

This workshop will explore the aspects and features of sheep's wool and provide an overview of some accessible single-breed wools and the variety they can offer to your knitting. We will dive into the history and tradition of these unique sheep breeds and their wool. Participants will get to touch and feel and compare over a dozen different sheep breeds in this workshop.

Registration for this event includes:

  • a lecture/workshop on Breed Specific Wool for Your Fibre Arts Practice (details above)
  • an introduction to Anna's new book, The True Cost of Wool
  • a Q&A session (as time allows)
  • a signed copy of Anna's book, The True Cost of Wool
  • light refreshments

The event will take place in the hall in the lower level of All Saints Anglican Church here in Ridgeway. The address is 149 South Mill Street and the doors will open at 12:30pm.
